Dell Vostro A860

Full review of Dell Vostro A860

An affordable option that will fit into any budget, the Dell Vostro A860 Laptop offers great mobility and connectivity for the individual who needs a little more versatility from a work computer. Recently offered at $399 through Dell as part of a late 2008 push, there's arguably no better computer for your buck.

The Vostro A860 offers three upgrade packages for more user customization. However, no unnecessary trial software is in the mix to clutter the hard drive or the desktop. The amply spaced 15.6-inch widescreen LCD display offers enough room to view multiple tasks and projects, with the ability to stream media or DVDs on the standard drive.

Dell Vostro A860 Tech Specs

The Vostro A860 comes with a lower-end Intel Celeron M processor at 2.16GHz and Vista Home Basic Service Pack 1. The optical drive offers a 24x CD Burner/DVD combo, with the option to upgrade to an 8x DVD+/-RW drive. The basic package offers users 1GB of memory, a 160GB SATA hard drive and the Intel Graphics Media Accelerator X3100. Out of the box, the laptop is wireless capable, and includes the standard one-year basic limited warranty.

Features

Ultimately, the Vostro A860 is perfect for transitioning from a desktop to a capable laptop, catering to those in need of the technological mobility. Aesthetically, the computer offers a low-profile look, without the overly glossy finish found on many black laptops. The full keyboard allows for maximized user efficiency and comfort, and with the four-cell battery, the weight is just over 5 lbs.

The only real drawback, when considering the unbeatable price, is the size and the power-pull of a four-cell Li-Ion battery. Yet, when reviewing the pros and cons, an under $400 price tag far outweighs the drawbacks to this entry-level laptop.

Introducing the HP TouchSmart tx2z, With Multi-Touching Goodness

Touted as the first "consumer" oriented multitouch convertible tablet, the TouchSmart tx2z comes loaded with multi-touch power as well as a strong set of standard features.

The TouchSmart tx2z is a convertible tablet with a touchscreen that can register two points of input. Only the business Dell Latitude XT previously supported multi-touch input. As for regular computing, the tx2z is no slouch. It comes with AMD Dual-Core Processors, an ATI HD3200 GPU and up to a whopping 8GB RAM and 400GB HDD. The 12.1" display is WXGA (1280x800) and the weight is 4.3lbs. It comes with various degrees of Windows Vista as well as Bluetooth, an integrated webcam/fingerprint reader, and other optional goodies. With a starting price of only $1,149 they appear to be selling quickly. Which means if you want one I'd click here and buy it already.

Acer Aspire One

Full review of Acer Aspire One

The Aspire One is an 8.9" netbook with an Intel Atom N270 processor and GMA950 integrated graphics just like every other netbook out there. With identical hardware, you would assume to get roughly the same performance out of it, and you would assume correctly.

Features

There is still a measure of variation between different netbooks and brands, most notably the appearance, but quality aspects are naturally also important, as well as connectivity, hard drive, RAM and battery size.

Regarding the last item in the list, we managed to find the desirable and elusive model with the 6-cell battery, which offered 5 hours and 40 minutes of battery life with wireless on and backlight set to 75%. It wouldn't be unreasonable to assume that the 3-cell, which is more common, would yield about half of that.

Big for a Netbook

Of course, getting the larger battery also means sacrificing some portability. The Aspire One is actually a bit large already (as far as netbooks go), and the 6-cell battery increases the weight to roughly 2.5 pounds. Another minor annoyance with the Acer is the relatively wide and thick bezel that makes it even slightly larger than some 10-inch netbooks.

That annoyingly large LCD bezel is unfortunately not the only letdown as far as the screen is concerned. Its viewing angles are also very poor - colors start shifting as soon as you're not exactly in front of the screen.

Bottom Line

You also get varying amounts of RAM and hard drive (or SSD) space depending on which version you get. The Aspire One is available with both flash memory-based Solid State Drives in smaller sizes and regular notebook hard drives. Our review model had 1GB of RAM and a 160GB hard drive - both quite generous for a netbook. In most aspects, you actually get a lot of "bang for the buck" with the Aspire One.

On the whole it's a reasonably well-rounded netbook that - like most netbooks - offer few surprises. Considering what you have to pay for it, it's hard not to recommend this netbook in spite of a few flaws.

Acer Aspire One Technical Specifications

  • Harddrive 160GB

Finding the best gaming laptop can be very frustrating at times. In fact, finding the best of any computer related products can be frustrating because the technology field is so fast paced.

One thing is for sure that whatever is top of the line today most assuredly will not be in the top in a couple of months.

As I said, the pace of technology is simply astounding. And it can also get pretty frustrating if you just bought what you thought was the king of gaming notebooks, only to have a new king appear on the market a few weeks later.

This is why it may be better to consider looking for certain qualities in a gaming computer, rather than a specific brand or model.

Models get switched out every so often.

Brands get hyped by the reporters and computer magazines one issue, only to have their reputations bashed in the next.

Instead, what I recommend is to hunt for consistent quality across the board instead of just a flash in the pixilated pan.

No matter what brand or model your considering, the best gaming laptop must first and foremost come with Intel Centrino mobile technology.

First off, these new chipsets make sure that your notebook doesn’t burn through its battery after only a few rounds of Doom III. And secondly, this mobile technology maximizes the graphic output, making images and movement appear smooth and crisp, not choppy and blurred.

Of course, to really appreciate these high-grade visuals, you need a large, potentially wide screen display. In the area of 14 or 15 inches, with wide angles and crystal clear imaging.

The extra display size may make your laptop a bit more unwieldy, but you’re there to play the computer, not lug it around.

Finally, to maximize your web gaming, you should get a laptop with the finest in wireless technology, such as Bluetooth and Wi Fi connectivity. These will add the mobile to your mobile gaming, allowing you to challenge the competition in San Diego, California and San Juan, Costa Rica.

Now when your comparing prices and models, it goes with out saying that you should maximize your hard drive space, games and graphics need alot of space. Also remember to maximize RAM memory, and processor speed as well. For all of these components are literally the backbone of any computer system, let alone the best gaming laptop.

These potent graphics engines unite the most powerful processors and GPU technology to enable the ultimate gaming environment wherever you set up shop. Gaming Laptops

The playstations are the talk of the new generation now. Ever heard about laptop gaming? The best company that is offering laptop gaming, to give you optimal gaming experience is Dell. There are several factors to be considered before purchasing the laptops with the feature of gaming. The main core area is the graphic card, which is the most eminent factor if you are opting for playing games. There should also be option of upgradation because there is always something new in the gaming area coming up, new innovations etc.

The graphic cards like NVIDIA graphic chipsets is the optimal for 3D game because it gives experience as if you are playing for real on the platform. Radeon 9700 is another graphic card, which gives you better performance saving on battery power also.

Apart from graphic cards a laptop should have a better RAM, random access memory, of 512 which is ideal for serious gamers. The more the RAM the better is the experience in gaming. The video RAM or the VRAM which comes with graphics card (NVIDIA, ATI, Radeon etc…) handles graphics and visuals and is used by the video adapters inside the laptop with 32MB, 64MB, and 128MB it is especially used for 3D gaming.

The processor speed is also very important apart from RAM, as they both work in correlation. The processor speed is measured in GHz, the best being Intel Core 2 Duo. A 2.4GHz speed is best for laptop gaming. The hard drive where your data is stored should be SATA (Serial Advanced Technology Architecture) is best for laptops because it uses less power than other hard drives comparatively. The speed of the hard drives should be 7200rpm, which is the highest and best for gaming laptop.

The screen plays a crucial part to give ultimate gaming experience. A 17” screen is best suitable for this purpose. Resolution and display qualities are crucial to handle the graphics for 3D gaming. The resolution, which has to be followed is WUXGA (Widescreen Ultra extended Graphics Array) it is 1920 by 1200 pixels display or 2,304,000 pixels with a 16:10 screen aspect ratio.

One of the preferred sites to get the Dell laptop is couponpundits.com and amazing thing is it offers free coupons, which fetch you discounts on computers, laptops, and accessories. So the best buy with all the above features in Dell can be purchased with the comfort of the home online. The Dell XPS M1730 laptop has all the above features built in.

Apart from the above features of system another factor is the firewall, which should be never forgotten. The firewalls are foremost protector of your laptop when you are gaming online. A firewall keeps outside users from accessing your system, it protects from thefts of passwords. If you have not installed firewall you are prone to be affected with the crooks installing spyware, Trojan horses, and viruses on your laptop. They can gain access to your personal information and can cause you mental trauma. A well-configured firewall will prevent any such unauthorized access to your machine.

So, go on play the games of your choice and have fun all the way with the convenience of taking the game to your favorite corner or place, but play the games with the precaution as stated above.

Sharp RD-PM10

A dictionary to have with you on the road? Sure, why not, especially if it's a "netbook-style" one! The Sharp RD-PM10 is a pretty handsome gadget, and while some may claim its place isn't amongst laptops... here's the story to make you change your mind. Ready or not, we're rollin'! This little pocket dictionary comes powered by Windows CE 5.0, and since it also has a full QWERTY keyboard, you can almost call it a netbook. After all, it wouldn't be the first mobile computer without any kind of optical drive, but let's get serious and see the rest of it, shall we?

Apart from using Microsoft's Windows CE, this white beauty packs a screen as large as 4.3 inch (WQVGA resolution), as well as 8GB of storage, but I don't think you'll be able to play Quake on it. Why that?
<-300x250 Medium Rectangle - center->
Well, the Sharp RD-PM10 has been designed only for light e-dictionary duties, and despite the fact it also has some basic media playback features, it won't get too far with that. Damn, if they would add some more interesting and capable OS in future versions...

Anyway, if you're asking yourselves about the price, I guess it's enough to say that the Sharp RD-PM10 has a list price of about $290, but there's no word about its availability in the US just yet. Anyway, as long as it also comes with a microSD slot for expansion, and very good codec support, it could be worth the wait, don't you think?

This looks way better than my desktop, and mobile too!

Toshiba Satellite U300-134 Laptop

Toshiba need little effort when it comes to making a sale for laptops today. They are an icon in the laptop industry and surely it needs little introduction and elaboration. Having seen the popularity of Apple’s very stylish but none-too-light MacBook, other manufacturers have got on the 13.3-inch laptop bandwagon; with, it has to be said, varying degrees of success. Toshiba’s foot-hold in this market sector is the Satellite U300 series.

Toshiba’s Satellite U300-134 should certainly stir things up in the 13.3-inch notebook arena as it offers stylish looks, a pretty decent feature set and reasonable battery life.

Dell XPS M1330 Laptop

Dell has been continuing its dark horse ways in the world of laptop technology and while it has been quiet, it has features that surely will not go unnoticed. Dell claims that the XPS M1330 is the world’s thinnest 13.3-inch notebook and, while we wouldn’t dispute that for the front of the chassis (23mm), it’s far off the mark when it comes to the rear of the chassis, which measures some 34mm thick.

Stylish and feature-rich, the XPS M1330 is Dell’s best ultraportable to date. No, make that the best 13.3-inch notebook you can currently buy that doesn’t have an apple as a logo.

Asus AS5633 Laptop

Asus has been a known alternative for reasonable laptop ownership today and this has made it a top choice for people needing laptops today. The AS5633 gives a straightforward glimpse into the current world of the Acer laptop. Discounting the fact that it arrives in a traditional style, rather than the new Gemstone chassis, this is very much a mass-market portable, powered by an Intel Core 2 Duo T5500 processor

A solid, unexciting laptop that justifies its asking price. You won’t find many frills, but it does its job well as far as providing the needed purpose of laptops in the market today.

HP Pavillion dv9700t Laptop Review

As far as Hewlett Packard is concerned, not many people gave it a change to survive the notebook industry and was better off focusing on their top quality printers which is preferred in the market. Apparently, they are not yet giving up and this is proven with their continued contributions towards mobile computing today.

Overall, the HP Pavilion dv9700t is terrific. Any junkies fixated on high-end gaming or intense graphics/editing might find this computer lacking some muscle. For everybody else, it combines power, beauty, speed and solid design at a cost that can’t be beat.

Sony Vaio AR

The Vaio AR series employs a 17.8-inch monitor with a towering native resolution of 1,920 x 1,200 pixels, which is skilled of mixing out high-definition content at 1080 pixels. You obtain an HDMI video output, a TV tuner, and it all operates off a 2GHz Core Duo CPU and a plucky GeForce Go 7600 GT graphics card. Sony seems to be departing all-out with the AR series, as it seems that some models will feature dual 200GB hard drives. Also, if you are thinking of taking it out in the road, think again -they’ll weigh up in the region of 3.8Kg, and make you £2,000 not as good as when someone attacks you of them.

Sales Direction Of Samsung

Samsung will stop the operation of its laptop division if it doesn’t perk up its market share by 2011. The senior manager for it’s overseas sales and marketing division said that additional 11 million units must be sold worldwide by the year 2011. This is to be able to  accomplish a 5.7 percent growth in the market share. In order to stay at the top, Samsung says that they need to at least go beyond Sony’s currently 6 percent  market share in the laptop industry. Likewise, as any laptop or computer manufacturers, the only way to increase it’s sales is to venture into mini PC market similar to what Asus, HP, and MSI did.

Alienware Offers Gaming Laptop

We all know the popularity of gaming today and normally desktop computers are the preferred setup. Laptops were never known to handle gaming since most of them focused a lot of business related matters. But not anymore!

With this laptop, the Alienware Area-51 m17x now been unleashed in the market and providing avid gamers a more mobile way of playing their favorite games to date.

The Area-51 m17x has the following specifications:

• Intel Core 2 Duo Processors (6MB Cache, 800MHz FSB)

Toshiba Satellite A305 Laptop Review

Toshiba has always been among the top choices when it comes to mobile computing choices. It has been tested and is a known brand in the laptop industry and chances are this new model, the Toshiba Satellite A305 will not be far from being another hot commodity for techie freaks today.

The Toshiba Satellite A305 is a redesign of the older A205, vastly improving the look and feel of the notebook, as well as adding the incredibly durable Fusion finish. While some of the lower body looks similar to the older notebook, everything from the waistline up has changed to a sleeker, softer, and glossier feel.

Asus M51 Laptop

Asus has slowly made its way as one of the alternative laptops today and depending on the purpose of wanting a laptop, this is perhaps among the alternative choices when it comes to mobile computing today.

The Asus M51 series notebooks are 15-inch laptops offered with a range of Intel Core 2 Duo processors, dedicated graphics, and enough extras to keep most students or families happy.

The Asus M51 is a nice consumer notebook with good performance, decent port selection, and a solid graphics card option for gaming. Asus has clearly risen to the challenge of creating an attractive general use laptop in an attempt to attract a wide range of consumer laptop shoppers.

Mini Laptops

Today’s hottest property in the world of computing are the super-small, super-cheap laptops. Asus surely did, and its triumph in introducing with the Eee PC has led to other manufacturers contending for a slice of its pie. Its attempt, dubbed the MSI Wind produced to be the best of the best. Like the Eee, it will be accessible with a choice of screen sizes. MSI distributors plans to ship an 8.9-inch version of the Wind by end of the year but will primarily ship a 10-inch version with a native resolution of 1,024×600 pixels. This isn’t predominantly high considering the 8.9-inch screen on the HP 2133 Mini-Note runs at 1,280×768 pixels.

Careful with your New MacBook

Apple recently releases its newest line of MacBook notebooks. They are all undeniably gorgeous. Packed with a new unibody, stronger and much more durable. This is by far the toughest computer built by Apple. But as it turns out, there is a major CON with the unibody chassis design. Having a dent or accidentally cracking your screen can cost you so much more, now that the chassis is built without separate parts. The New MacBook Pro has a new glass screen that is joined together with the LCD display. If you break the glass, you will need to replace the whole display assembly. The unibody is made out of a single aluminum body, if you dent it or scratch it, you’ll also have to replace the entire assembly. The keyboard has more than 52 screws. Good luck in opening it up if you accidentally spill a crumb or so.

The Asus Eee PC S101

With the S101, the Eee PC has matured in a technological point of view. The The Asus Eee PC S101 has been recently redesigned. So you can expect it to be sexier, lighter, and more dependable to every user. The newest laptop from Asus is more expensive and somewhat elite than the previous Asus Eee laptops. But, Asus is marketing the ‘netbook” as an alternative solution to the much more expensive models in its class, like the Sony Vaio TT series and the Toshiba Portege R500. The Eee PC S101 is simply gorgeous. What strikes me most is its glossy lid. It is colored mocha brown. But is just stunning. It is bundled with the ever so reliable Windows XP operating system. It employs a 1.6GHz Intel Atom N270 CPU and 1GB of DDR2 667MHz RAM. The standard specs of most netbooks. It is also planning to come out with a Linux model. Just watch out for it. It comes with a 52GB hard disk drive capacity. It also features the latest in hard drives, the solid state hard disk drives.
